you've been wanting to eat german pork knuckle since you arrived on friday. paulaner hamburg didn't have any table on friday evening. well to be fair it's a party of 8 and hence reservation is essential. you have plan to return the next day for lunch but yet paulaner refused to take any reservation. you didn't go in but the feedback you heard from you friends are they literally reject the reservation without looking at their booking system. you got a feeling that it could be discrimination, if that's the case, it's really shame on paulaner.
you had a great time at the other beer house called hofbrau wirtshaus just a stone throw from the city cathedral. here you sample a delicious schweinhaxe.
imagine this is just 1/2 portion and 6 of you sharing the two plates that make up one portion of deep fried pork knuckle. it's delicious and the fact that you had 6 to 7 people fighting for the food made it even tastier...
a happy you with 1/2 pork knuckle.... in reality you only have a few bites but that was enough since you already had a light lunch few hours before...
you are not a beer person but you had one here since you are in the german beer house.
the dessert, this is the winner. it's sort of mini waffle pancakes on the bed of sliced apple with drizzle of rum and raisins, pair with a dollop of vanilla ice cream and dust with powder sugar. super yummy, you wish the ice cream is slightly bigger so that you could sample the mini waffles in the hot and cold palate
apfelstrudel in vanilla sauce, it's okay
but you have taste a better one in vienna... you never got the chance to write about it, perhaps now is the time ^^. this was freshly made and it's of imperial quality attended to the hapsburg empire...
the interior of the beer hall upstair... this floor is totally deserted but you know it will not be for long before dinner...

i am back as of last night but my body and mind is not functioning at all. good that i'm working from home and there's much to do besides a few calls to attend to. it must be the post holiday depression or perhaps the lack of daylight, i feel a little insane that i have to leave the light on throughout the day... heading towards the shortest day for sure....
